Tomato overload in preparation...

I transplanted six tomato plants today, though without any hardening off. I never have time for that, so they just get the full outdoor shock treatment. They were getting too big to keep them inside anyway (photo, left, shows the tomato plants right before I moved them out). I still have one left to take out ("big rainbow") and two more seedlings to grow ("yellow pear" and "thessaloniki"). I think we may be overwhelmed with tomatoes this year. Perhaps I will be forced to learn to can or otherwise preserve them...

Lettuce is looking good in the small garden. There are two kinds planted, "pot and patio" lettuce and "little gem" romaine. The "pot and patio" is supposed to be good for dense growing in small spaces, and the romaine is a small one that should be better-suited to our cooking needs than regular-sized heads.
