cover crop success!

Last year I planted a "fall mix" of cover crops from Territorial Seed Co in the boxes in the large garden. Despite zero attention from me after throwing the seeds on the ground, they did quite well (see photo). Tu helped me by turning them under today so I could plant the tomatoes in one of the boxes. The soil in the grow boxes looked really good when Tu was turning it over. I guess the cover crops helped.

Another success is the sweet clover I planted last summer in part of the small garden (photo, left). This has leafed out very quickly and looks nice and thick. The roots of this one are supposed to loosen sub-soil, so it will be interesting to see how the soil is when it comes time to dig it up.
