Winter planning

Well, it's finally time to get back to the garden. I don't have much of a winter garden going, just the citrus trees trying to survive the winter in a sunny window, and my Syngenta pansies that have survived our Christmas snow.

Since I don't know if we'll be in our house this whole year (we're hoping to move), I'm going to try doing a container garden plus a few plants in the ground, ones that I'm likely to be able to harvest, such as lettuce and early-ripening tomatoes. I found some good suggestions in my issue of Organic Gardening magazine:

I'm planning to buy transplants this year rather than starting from seed, (except for lettuce), since I just don't have time to monitor seeds this year. For lettuce, I'll use a lettuce mix, probably from Territorial Seed or from The Cook's Garden.
