Cabin fever, winter 2006

Started some winter stuff inside today:
  • Planted some scallion roots as directed by Dec '06 / Jan '07 Organic Gardening. Put four of them in a big green plastic pot with Southern States potting soil.
  • Started some Thai Basil and Italian Large-leaf Basil (Botanical Interests) in small six-pack plastic containers. I planted two slots of each seed.
  • Ornamental pepper seeds from last year (2 slots).
  • Ferry-Morse cactus seeds (six slots). These are supposed to be covered with glass while germinating. I put a plastic case on top, since I don't have glass. 7-56 days to germination!
I am attempting to grow these in the guest room on the card table. We'll see if there is enough sun in there. It would be a lot easier than in the dining room, due to the cats and the other big plants in there for the winter (hibiscus, and lime). Also, planted an amaryllis (minerva?) bulb yesterday that Sarah and Curt gave us for Thanksgiving. It is growing in the dining room.
